Abras are traditional boats that ferry passengers across Dubai Creek. It is the cheapest and quickest way of sailing between Deira and Bur Dubai.
There are currently two lines:
- Deira Old Souq Station (Deira) - Bur Dubai Station (Bur Dubai).
- Al Sabkha Station (Deira) - Dubai Old Souq Station (Bur Dubai).
The timetable varies for each line. The first operates from 5 am to midnight and the second functions 24 hours a day.
An Abra ride across Dubai Creek is only 1 AED (US$ 0.30) per passenger per journey. Payment is made directly to the ferryman in cash.
If you want to explore Dubai Creek in a more leisurely way, you can rent a boat for yourself for 120 AED (US$ 32.60) an hour (in total).
Dubai currently has 149 Abra boats which carry more than 16 million passengers annually.
Future of the Abra boats
The government has no plans to end this convenient, traditional form of transportation. It is expected that in the coming years, the abra boats will be modernized to operate more ecologically.
